Mount Bromo is located in East Java, Indonesia, precisely on the border between Kab. Malang, Kab. Pasuruan, and Probolinggo. It is part of the nature reserve area “Taman Nasional Bromo Tengger Semeru” or Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, commonly abbreviated as TNBTS.

1. Panorama of Tumpak Sewu
At the Tumpak Sewu Panorama, you can witness the stunning circle of Tumpak Sewu Waterfall from a height with Mount Semeru in the background, surrounded by refreshing mountain air. This panoramic view is a popular selfie spot, and many capture moments here using drones. To reach this spot, you’ll need to walk about 400 meters from the main ticket office.
2. Bottom Waterfall Tumpak Sewu
As its name, this spot is right beneath Tumpak Sewu Waterfall. Getting here isn’t too hard, but it requires attention to your physical fitness, safety gear, and mental readiness. To reach this point, you’ll walk about 600 meters down stairs from Tumpak Sewu Panorama. In total, it’s about a 1 km journey from the main ticket office: 400 meters to the panorama and then descending 600 meters down stairs.
Here are some important considerations before heading down the stairs or visiting the Bottom Waterfall:
- Wear sturdy, non-slip rubber shoes, as the path involves descending stairs and some areas with flowing water. Forgot your shoes? You can rent rubber boots near the Tumpak Sewu ticket office for IDR 10,000 – IDR 20,000
- Those with asthma should avoid descending to the Bottom Waterfall.
- Those have fear of heights also should avoid descending to the Bottom Waterfall.
- Children under 10 and adults over 60, or those not physically fit, should also avoid the descent.
- Descending to the Bottom Waterfall is not allowed after 03.00 PM.
3. Nirwana Cliff in Tumpak Sewu
Once you reach the Bottom Waterfall of Tumpak Sewu, don’t miss out on exploring this stunning place. Here, you can unwind and take a moment to admire the nirvana cliffs while enjoying the waterfall that flows from the Tumpak Sewu mountains. There’s an additional entrance fee of IDR 10,000 per person at the ticket office, covering access to the nirvana cliffs and the Blue Lake.
4. Telaga Biru or Blue Lake
If you find the trek too tiring, don’t worry! You can rent a horse to take you to the base of the stairs leading to the crater. The horse rental prices vary, with an average cost of around IDR 100,000 – IDR However, this price is not fixed and can be cheaper or more expensive depending on the holiday season or the policies of the rental providers. This spot is right next to the Nirvana Cliffs and left us amazed during our Tumpak Sewu exploration. It’s not just a regular pond — the Blue Lake is incredibly unique. Its clear blue water is mesmerizing, almost like blue fire when calm and serene.
The Blue Lake captivated us with its natural beauty, unlike any other lake or pond we’ve seen before. The water here is so clear and blue that it leaves you speechless.
Here, you can see truly unique natural phenomena. The water splashing from this lake has a color like the blue of fire. Then, it will appear as usual when the water is still. We had a great time playing in the water here.
You can relax and swim in the cool mountain mineral water, surrounded by the refreshing mountain air that’s hard to find elsewhere.
5. Tetes Cave
Besides the 4 stunning places mentioned above, there’s another special spot, Tetes Cave Tumpak Sewu. You don’t need to worry about finding your way here safely and comfortably. To get to this place, you can climb several stairs and cliffs that have been provided by the tourism manager there. To enter the Tetes Cave area, there’s an additional entrance fee of IDR 10,000
Goa Tetes Tumpak Sewu is a cave lined with stalactite rocks and has a pool of cool mountain spring water inside. From the top of Tetes Cave, you can see the beauty of Tumpak Sewu Lumajang’s natural scenery from the hill, which is quite rare for a tourist spot to have such a complete attractions.

1. Pasir Berbisik or Whispering Sand
Pasir Berbisik is a popular photo spot. In 2001, it was used as the backdrop for the Indonesian movie “Pasir Berbisik” directed by Nan Achnas, a female director and producer from Indonesia. Besides being a film setting, this tourist spot is also often used for shooting documentaries or pre-wedding photos.
One famous pre-wedding photo shoot that took place here was by the Indonesia singer, Judika.
2. Padang Savannah
However, this differs from the general perception. The Padang Savannah located in Mount Bromo has beautiful green grass that ranges in height from half a meter to one meter. It has a lot of wild grass, making this tourist spot perfect for those who long for the lushness of nature and also an ideal place for photo backgrounds or documentation.
Besides having a beautiful view, many tourists capture moments by taking photos with horses rented out by local people or tourism managers. So, it’s not just impressive selfies. You can also take photos while riding a horse, much like in magazines with nature-themed backgrounds.
3. Teletubbies Hill

For pick-up and drop-off vehicles we use Sigra/Avanza/Xenia/Inova/Xpander cars for groups of a maximum of 6 – 7 people.
For larger groups, we will use vehicles like HiAce, Elf Short/Long, & Medium Bus.
Here are a few things to keep in mind before descending the stairs or visiting the Bottom Waterfall:
- Participants under 10 years old and over 60 years old are only allowed to enjoy the beauty of Tumpak Sewu from above or the Panorama area of Tumpak Sewu.
- Participants who are afraid of heights are prohibited from visiting the Bottom Waterfall, Telaga Biru or Blue Lake, Nirvana Cliff, and Tetes Cave.
- Participants with asthma or heart conditions are also not allowed to go to Bottom Waterfall.
- Exploration below the waterfall is not permitted after 03.00 PM, participants should enjoy the Panorama Tumpak Sewu area instead.
- In case of heavy rain in the Tumpak Sewu or Mount Semeru area, the Tumpak Sewu exploration will be limited to the Panorama area only.
